Case Study: Upskilling International Market Access Teams

Client Challenge

A large pharma company was looking for Market Access training for their multi-disciplinary team in the UK, with a particular interest in rare diseases. The Head of Market Access was keen to bring their new European colleagues up to speed on the UK Market Access landscape. At the same time, it was an opportunity to upskill less experienced team members.

Kintiga Approach

Kintiga put together a cross-functional project team, taking into account team members’ different areas of expertise and markets, whilst drawing on their wide knowledge of health technology bodies in the UK.

The project team then delivered a series of three workshops focused around health technology appraisals and reimbursement in the UK, with two taking place virtually and the final one face to face. The sessions covered:

Market Access in England. Topics covered were:

  • Introduction to NICE and their different technology processes, with a specific focus on rare disease
  • Overview of NHS England and specialised commissioning, including an external advisor
  • Value of Early engagement including horizon scanning activities

Market Access in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland. Topics covered were:

  • Health Technology Appraisals and reimbursement across the devolved nations
  • SMC processes how to engage, focus on rare disease and patient group engagement.
  • Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland health system structures, including NCPE and routes to reimbursement

The face-to-face workshop was tailored to the client’s challenges and unique situation in the rare disease space. It included a summary of learnings to date, case studies, a surgery to talk about current challenges and a quiz to check learning.

Results

The training was successfully delivered to ten members of the client’s team. The materials prepared for the training were shared, including recordings of the virtual sessions, ready to be used for future training. If your organisation would  benefit from bespoke Market Access training, please get in touch today.
